Roger Leon Vicars, 68, of Dana, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at St. Vincent Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a retired barber, carpet designer and installer, worked for the railroad and construction. He was born Dec. 15, 1944, in Jonestown, to the late Max Vicars and Marcella Rogers Vicars.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Judith Hirschbein Vicars, whom he married Aug. 22, 1964, in Bensonville, Ill.; one son, Jeff (Dana) Vicars of Dana; one daughter, Kathleen (Jeff) Knopp of Dana; two brothers, Larry (Diane) Vicars of Elgin, Ill., and Jim (Brenda) Vicars of Clinton; one sister, Diane Pitchkites of Clinton; four grandchildren, Gwyndolen (Dimitri) Morson, Seth Vicars, Gretchen Vicars and Grace Vicars; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tom Vicars and a sister-in-law, Rita Vicars.
He was a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church, and Bensonville, Ill., Masonic lodge 1159. He loved woodcarving, coon hunting and his dog “Chigger.”
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 N. Maple St., with Pastor Jim Roland officiating. Burial will follow in Bono Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by Jerusalem lodge #99 of Clinton.
