CLAY CITY — Tom Westenhaver Sr., 81, of Clay City, passed away at 11:50 p.m. on Jan. 26, 2013, at the ICU Unit at Roudebush VA Medical Center, in Indianapolis, following a brief illness. He was born in Worthington, on April 6, 1931 to Thomas and Effie (Nation) Westenhaver. Tom married Barbara Mary Baker on Dec. 7, 1951, in Seattle, where they lived.

Tom served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1954. Tom worked as a farm hand for John Fritz, and Don and Rex Blair for many years. He also worked for Don Booe at the sawmill where he retired from. He enjoyed taking care of his lawn and sitting on the front porch watching humming birds.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Leah, a son-in-law Walt Gochanour; and his beloved dog, Bruno.

He is survived by six children, Judy Gochanour of Brazil, Mary Ellen (Eddie) Farris of Clay City, Tom Westenhaver Jr. of Clay City, John Westenhaver of Harmony, Amanda (Steve) Hofmann, and Emily (Mark) Corbin of Clay City; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, on Jan. 31, 2013, at 1 p.m., with Pastor LaMont Bonath officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Clay County Humane Society, PO Box 277, Brazil, IN 47834.
