ROCKVILLE — Phyllis A. (Hudson) Morgan, 78, of Rockville, died at 1:33 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, in the emergency room at Union Hospital-Clinton. Phyllis was born Jan. 26, 1934, in Rockville to the late Opal (Howard) and Harry Allan Hudson. She graduated from Rockville High School in 1952, and Indiana State University in 1988, with a bachelor’s degree in English, and in 1992 with a master’s degree in communication. During her life, Phyllis taught head start in Rockville, ran Hartman Trucking Company, taught Communication at ISU, and was a substitute teacher for all Parke County schools. While at ISU, Phyllis was the first non-traditional commuter student to become president of the Student Government Association, an accomplishment she cherished.
Phyllis was a member of the local chapter of Order of Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was a student of life and enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, playing Euchre, horse racing, Indiana University basketball, and spoiling her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, W.W. Soltermann, R.L. Hartman, and R. Rector; and daughter, Juanita L. Denbo.
She is survived by her ex-husband, Max Morgan of Rockville; brother, John Allan (Donna) Hudson of Crawfordsville; children, Eva Lynn (Bob) Doan of Clinton, Allan (Karen) Solterman of Rockville, John Solterman of Clinton, Warren (Candy) Solterman of Arizona, Charlotte Korteba of Carmi, Ill., Gary Soltermann of Springerton, Ill., Sandy (Jerry) O’Neal of Arizona, and Betty Jean (Jeff) Ritsch of Carmi, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a great-niece. All of whom will miss her frank sense of humor.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., with the Rev. Don Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Catlin.
