MARSHALL, Ill. — Lois Elizabeth Thornton, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, great mommy, aunt and friend, went to be with the Lord at 4:35 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Burnsides Community Health Center. Lois was employed by TRW for 33 years, being one of the first hired at Formalite. She retired in 1985. She was born March 2, 1919, in Martinsville, the daughter of Sherman and Ona Wolfe Davison. She was first married to Homer Knapp, who preceded her in death in June of 1976. She later married Lewis Warner in 1979, who preceded her in death in April of 1982. Following the death of Lewis, she met and married Jim Thornton in 1990, and he preceded her in death in July of 2002.
Surviving are her children, Kent (Shirley) Knapp of Tallahassee, Fla., Sharon (Jake) Carpenter of Dennison, and Gerald (Joan) Knapp of Glendale Heights; grandchildren, Tom Knapp, Tim (Kim) Knapp, Darrell Knapp, Tammy (Frederic) Shaw, Chad Carpenter, Sheri (Brian) Nestler and Brian Knapp; stepgrandchildren, LeAnn (Ben) Morgan, Christine (Dragan) Rogliacin, and David (Jackie) Wyrick; 11 great-grandchildren, including special great-granddaughter, Kayla Elizabeth Powers; one great-great-granddaughter, Baileigh Powers, who was the identical twin of Charleigh Powers, who passed away in September of 2011; and one great-great-grandson. In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and great-great-granddaughter, she was preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Doty; a brother, Leon Davison; and an aunt, Elizabeth Medsker.
She was a member of Armstrong United Methodist Church, rural Marshall. She was a lifetime member of the Marshall Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and she had started a Bunco Club that lasted for more than 50 years.
Services in honor of her life will be 10:30 a.m. CST Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Krista Price officiating. Burial will be in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. today, in the Shaw Chapel at Burnsides Community Health Center, and 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Pearce Funeral Home.
