TERRE HAUTE — Mary Ellen Lowe, 85, of Terre Haute, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, in Union Hospital. She was born April 7, 1927, in North Terre Haute, to Thomas Tanner Sr. and Gladys (McLin) Tanner.

Mary Ellen is survived by her husband of 651⁄2 years, Donald R. Lowe, whom she married May 1, 1947; daughter, Rebecca Steele and husband Frank J. Steele of Terre Haute; son, Thomas Lowe and wife Dianne of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Kristi Sowder and husband Mike, Elizabeth Knestrick and husband Nathan, Jason Lowe, Mary Lowe, Michael Steele, Gregory Steele, and Thomas Steele; great-grandchildren, Megan Sowder, Kaylie Sowder, Madelyn Sowder, and Kaden Sowder. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gregory Lowe; and a brother, Thomas Tanner Jr.

Mary Ellen enjoyed gardening and crafts and was a wonderful mother and wife who will be sadly missed by her husband and the rest of her family.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 215 N. 7th St., with funeral services in the church at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Mary Slenski officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left at:
