  UPDATE 4: Deadly tornado roars through Oklahoma City suburb

  A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods and destroying an elementary school with a direct blow as children and teachers huddled against winds up to 200 mph. At least 51 people were killed, and officials said the death toll was expected to rise.

TERRE HAUTE — Carolyn S. Houghton, 74, of West Terre Haute, passed away at 4:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 4, 1938, in Terre Haute, to Leland Bogard and Marie Cooley Bogard.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy Hicks; four sons, Tim Houghton, Chuch Houghton, Doyne Houghton, and Jay Houghton; a brother, Fred Bogard; 12 grandchildren, Connar, Chase, Corrine, Carrissa, and Christian Houghton, Kelly Doan, D.J. Parsons, Carol Jean Parsons, Logan Houghton, Courtney Houghton, and Brooklyn Houghton; five great-grandchildren, Shyana, Dakota, and Shara Parsons, Jillian Doan, and Jacquelyn Lawler; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her companion, Floyd Davis; a daughter, Shara Parsons; a brother, Robert Bogard; and a sister, Patricia Krischak.

There will be visitation only with no services from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 220 N. Third St., in West Terre Haute.
