TERRE HAUTE —
Larry Eugene Jones, 71, went to be with the lord at 12:35 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012. There at his bedside was the love of his life, Maggie, along with his daughter, Gaylene Brandenburg. With them also was a great-niece, Darian Crum.
Larry was born in Hazel Park, Mich., on March 16, 1941, to Lathie Greene and Levesta Marie (Hayes) Jones. At the age of four, his family moved to Terre Haute and he lived there until his death.
He attended Warren Elementary, Deming Jr. High and Gerstmeyer High School, graduating in 1959. Larry enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 9, 1960, and was stationed in Korea for 16 months at the DMZ, then moved on to Germany, where he was at Check-Point Charlie at the Berlin Wall. He also toured France before returning home on Aug. 17, 1963.
He attended Indiana State Teachers College for two years before taking a position with Anaconda Aluminum and retired from there in 1998 after 34 years of service. He and his wife also operated an Income Property Business for 40 plus years in the Terre Haute area.
With his father, Uncle Sherman, and his two brothers, Phillip and Marvin Jones, were the most members of one family to enter the F&AM Euclid Lodge 573 (Now F&AM lodge 19) in Terre Haute. He was a loving son, husband, father, and brother and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He never met a stranger and his friends were friends for life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marvin Leroy Jones, June 25, 2012; grandparents, Della and Charlie Wimmer; great Aunt Mae and Uncle Frank Van Lieu; his mother and father-in-law, Elsie and Earl Cross; and brother-in-law, Roy M. Cross.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Maggie” A. (Cross) Jones; daughter, Gaylene M. and husband Robert Brandenburg; special great-niece, Darian Crum; his brother, Phillip (Sandy) Jones; sister-in-law, Jeanette Jones, Nora (Phillip) Crum; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also close family friends, Peggy Brandenburg, and Jim and Vickie Cook.
As per his wishes, cremation is scheduled with no services. There will be a celebration of life for his family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Terre Haute Humane Society or Harmony Haven in Terre Haute. Arrangements are under the direction of Simple Cremations and Burials.
