Melanie L. Wiencken

Melanie L. Wiencken, 51, of Terre Haute, passed away on the morning of Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in Indianapolis, after a six month battle with Burkitt’s Lymphoma.  

Melanie was born on Nov. 20, 1960, in Baltimore, Md., to Kenneth and JoAnne Taylor. She spent much of her childhood in Valparaiso, where she was a 1978 graduate of Valparaiso High School. It was there that she met her high school sweetheart and husband of 30 years, James Wiencken, who survives along with their children, Joshua (Sara) Wiencken of Indianapolis, Andrew (Whitney) Wiencken of Terre Haute, Lindsay (Kyle) Toney of Terre Haute; mother, JoAnne (Hale) Taylor of Valparaiso; grandmother, Muriel Hale of Baltimore; brother, Greg (Denise) Taylor of Valparaiso; and numerous nieces and great-nieces. She also leaves behind five dogs that will miss her dearly. Melanie was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Taylor.

Melanie began her career in 1993 at Vigo County School Corporation. She most recently worked as a proud member of the Sarah Scott Middle School family. Melanie spent her life as a loving wife, mother, and friend. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh and smile, selfless character, and ability to make friends with anyone she met. She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach.  

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, June 23, 2012, from 1 to 4 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at Maryland Community Church, 4700 S. State Road 46, Terre Haute, IN 47802. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, 1811 S. Fruitridge Ave., Terre Haute, IN 47803. Arrangements are under the direction of DeBaun Funeral Homes and Crematory.
