Victoria Elizabeth Owens

TERRE HAUTE — Victoria Elizabeth Owens, 77, of Terre Haute, transcended to be forevermore with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. She was born May 24, 1935, in Terre Haute, to the late Odway “Pete” and Susiana “Susie” Bumpus Jones. She moved to Mount Vernon, Ind., at the age of 4, and attended school and graduated from Garfield High School in Terre Haute. She was united in marriage to Wallace Jackson Owens Sr., on Nov. 22, 1954. Victoria was a loving wife for 52 years, a loving and devoted mother to Wallace “Jack” Jr., Carmen, Vickie, Vivian, Gina and Toya Owens. She was employed by St. Anthony Hospital as an obstetrician technician, and was employed by the Vigo County School Corporation. Soon after she gained the skills of a welder and pipefitter she then was employed at the Newport Army Ammunitions Plant for several years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Josephine Jones and Kay Frances Chumbley.

Victoria leaves to cherish her memory one son, Wallace Jack Owens (Debbie) of Terre Haute; five daughters, Carmen Owens Boyd (Kendall) of Jeffersonville, Vickie Bluitt (Eddie) of Indianapolis, and Vivian Owens, all of Indianapolis, Gina Cane (fiance Ralph Churchill Jr.), Toya Owens Shepard (Milo), all of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Carol Ann Jones and Carmen Anderson, both of Terre Haute; a brother, Lewis Odway “Pete” Jones (Ivonne) of Terre Haute; nephew brother, Ronald Jones (Laura) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Travis Owens, Wendolyn Owens, Walacia Owens, Jerred Owens, Joshua Henderson, Vivian Johnson, William Cane, Emanuel Black, Ashlee Shepard and Jade Shepard; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed coaching and playing fast pitch softball with her daughters. She enjoyed bowling in several bowling leagues with her husband. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter 6, and was on the Mothers’ Board at First Freewill Baptist Church.

Services are 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is 11 a.m. until services Saturday. Russell Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
