John J. Deichmiller

TERRE HAUTE — John J. Deichmiller, 69, of Terre Haute, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, in Davis Gardens. He was born October 2, 1942, in Quincy, Illinois, to John J. Deichmiller, Sr. and Delores Viar Deichmiller. He was a pipe fitter with the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 157 for 45 years.

Survivors include his two brothers, Jan Deichmiller and his wife Tina; and James Deichmiller and his wife Laura; several nieces and nephews; his Aunt Wanda Sullivan; and several cousins; He will be sorely missed by his long time friend and caregiver, Mary Bronson. John was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Derrick Deichmiller.

He was a 1960 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School where he excelled in football. John was a hero to those who knew and loved him. He was the eternal optimist, especially in the face of adversity. John lived and loved  life to the fullest. John tackled work and play with equal enthusiasm. He was very well read and knowledgeable in many areas. His first love after his family was boxing, which he got knocked out of due to an eye injury. He did some training at the local level. John was a proficient horse trainer and loved his Standardbreds and he was also an expert marksman.

There are no services. Visitation is scheduled 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 27, 2012, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street. The family kindly request that memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.
