Deanna Ka (Coil) Lichtenberger

TERRE HAUTE — Deanna Ka (Coil) Lichtenberger, age 66, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully at 3:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Union Hospital with her husband Dean, son David and daughter-in-law Amy by her side. Deanna was born in Lincoln, Ill., on Feb. 27, 1946, to Homer and Mildred Coil, and during the war years, she and her mother lived with her late grandparents, John and Ann Behrends, of New Holland, Ill., for 16 months.

Deanna and her family moved to Pekin, Ill., in 1953 at the age of 7, where she attended Edison Jr. High School and graduated from Pekin Community High School in 1964. She was a member of First Christian Church where she was baptized and was active in the youth activities. Deanna attended Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in teaching.

Deanna was united in marriage with her husband of 44 years, Dean A. Lichtenberger, on July 21, 1968, in Pekin. They moved to Burlington, Iowa, where Deanna became very active in the Jr. Women’s Club—where she served as past President, was a nominee for the Outstanding Club Woman of the Year and held numerous positions in the club. Deanna was a member of the First Christian Church, the Mary Circle and was instrumental in beginning the Young Mother’s Circle. In addition, she was a member of PEO Chapter KB, and was a member of several card clubs and thoroughly enjoyed the times with her special friends. She taught 6th grade at the Washington Elementary School for several years and after her son David was born and in school, she was a substitute teacher and taught 7th and 8th grades.

In September of 1986, the family moved to Grand Island, Neb., and was a member of the First Christian Church and PEO Chapter.

Deanna and her family then moved to Terre Haute in September 1989 and she was a member of the Central Christian Church and later the Union Christian Church. Her memberships in Terre Haute also include the Newcomers Club and past president of PEO Chapter K and the Terre Haute Women’s Club, where she was selected as the Outstanding Club Woman of the Year for the Terre Haute Women’s Club and was very active and held numerous positions in the club, she enjoyed volunteering and conducting tours at the Vigo County Historical Society in Terre Haute. She received great joy in traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their motor home, attending motor home conventions, camping with their close friends and members of the Great River Ramblers camping club and especially taking her grandsons on long trips during the summer.

Deanna was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Ann Behrends; her father, Homer C. Coil; her sister-in-law, Rita Ransdell, and her brothers-in-law, Bedford Roberts and Jim Ransdell.

Deanna’s memories and her extraordinary love for her family and friends will always be remembered by her husband Dean, her son David and his wife Amy, her grandchildren Nathan Lichtenberger, Nicholas Lichtenberger, Caden Lichtenberger, Camden Lichtenberger, Donavon Newman, Billie Jo Hoggatt, Brittaney Hoggatt and Bryce Andrews, all of Terre Haute, her mother Mildred Coil of Evanston, Ill. and formerly of Pekin, her brother Ron Coil and his wife Beth of Evanston, her sister-in-law Sharon Roberts of Peoria, Ill., her niece Katie Noone and her husband Brendan of Chicago, her nephew Jake Coil of Chicago, her nephew Craig Roberts and his wife Shannon of Mossville, Ill., her nephew Scott Roberts and his wife Kasandra of Peoria, her niece Shaunne Walker of Hannibal, Mo., her niece Tina Rodgers of Taylor, Mo., and all her wonderful and special family and friends.
