FARMERSBURG —
Richard (Dick) Taylor, died May 14, 2012, in his home in Golden, Colo., with family at his bedside. He had been in declining health for several months. He was born July 13, 1923, in the Sullivan hospital. The oldest of Alva and Vera Taylor’s three children.
After graduating from Farmersburg High School, Dick attended Purdue University for two years before going into the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in Europe, was wounded three times and earned the Silver Star. He spent three years in Army hospitals but never complained. He was thankful to be alive and he saw other fellows who were far more disabled than he was. When he could leave the hospital he married his long time sweetheart, Sara Linsley. He returned to Purdue and earned his degree. Unable to do the farming he loved he became a farm manager.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Jane Ellen.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years; four sons, Richard and John of Illinois, Steven of Oregon, and David of Colorado; two daughters, Helen Price and Anne Freed, both of Colorado; a brother, Thomas of Farmersburg; and a sister, Mary Lou Lundy of Maine; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be in Colorado.
