Freda Marie Oxby

BRAZIL — Freda Marie Oxby, 91, of Brazil, passed away Oct. 24, 2012, at 1 a.m. at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, surrounded by her family. She is now with her Lord in Heaven resting in peace and with His Love. Freda was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Coal City, at the home of her grandparents. Her parents were Fred Fiscus and Alma Wolfe Fiscus.  

On April 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Adrian Oxby. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2003. Freda was a beautician for more than 20 years, working out of a shop in their home, named “We Curl up and Dye for You.”  She also worked at Glen and Ann’s and Southland Beauty Shop in Terre Haute.

She and Adrian were members of North Meridian Church of Christ and Freda also attended the Clay City Church of Christ following her move to Clay City after Adrian’s death.  

She was a 50-year member of the OES. She and her husband were known for breeding dogs, including Dobermans and Schnauzers. Freda was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Wilbur Fiscus; and brother-in-law, Bob Chapman.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John and Connie Oxby of Clay City; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Jerry Tiefel of Brazil; grandchildren, Becky Oxby, Brenda Hayden, John Oxby (Brandi), Jerry Michael and Melissa Burgess; great-grandchildren, Breanna VanSickle, Jerick Hayden, Adrian Michael Tiefel, Harley Miller, Haylee Miller and Leslie Jones (James); great-great-grandchildren, Braden, Harmonie, Addison, and Aidan; one sister, Nina Griffin of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, George Fiscus (Opal) of Pike County, Ind., and Bob Fiscus (Jo) of Gibson County, Ind.; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Services will be Saturday at Brenton Chapel Church of Christ, south of Petersburg, Ind., with Brother Steve Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Spurgeon Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at French Funeral Home, 421 E. National Ave., Brazil, and again Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT. Light a candle in her memory at
