Agnes E. St. John, age 81, of Terre Haute, went home to be with the Lord on the early morning of Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at University Hospital in Indianapolis. Agnes was born Oct. 16, 1931, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of the late Earl and Florence (Cottom) Hoopingarner. She went on to marry Robert St. John, who passed away in 1988.
Agnes was a faithful member of Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She also enjoyed being active with the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion, Post 104 for several years, along with playing bingo. Agnes loved her friends and family and will forever be remembered as a kind and caring people person.
She leaves behind her sister, Alta Gregory; brother, Charles Hoopingarner; sister-in-law, Connie Hoopingarner; nephews, Thomas and wife Debbie Gregory, Edward and wife Donna Gregory and William Gregory; along with several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Agnes was welcomed home to heaven by her brothers, Earl, Robert, Louis, Ronnie and Edward Hoopingarner.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, from 10 a.m. until Agnes’ funeral ceremony at 11 a.m. at Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, 4660 Lafayette Ave. Pastor Dick Smith will officiate with interment to follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions in memory of Agnes may be directed to Eighth Avenue Baptist Church or Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion, Post 104.
