Merrill Buell

BOWLING GREEN — Merrill Buell, 82, of Bowling Green, passed away on Oct. 10, 2012, at Glenburn Nursing Home, with his family by his side. Merrill was born Aug. 27, 1930, the son of Wilmer and Etta (Huber) Buell. He was part of the Bowling Green High School graduating class of 1948. In 1950 Merrill enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In 1952 he was discharged at the end of the war. Upon returning home, he began farming full-time on his family’s farm. Merrill farmed until his health forced him to retire.

Merrill attended Mount Zion Methodist Church, in Bowling Green. He was a founding member of the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department. He also was actively involved in the Bowling Green Old Settler’s organization, Clay County Farm Bureau and local politics, having served as Clay County commissioner.

Merrill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rolland Buell and Max Buell; and sister, Freeda Weber.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roberta Buell; sons, Michael Buell of Bowling Green, Lynn Buell and wife Melissa of Rockville; daughter, Katrina Miller and husband J.D. of Bowling Green; brother, Dr. Forrest Buell of Clay City; sister, Thelma Kennelly of Oregon; grandchildren, Nathan, Justin, Aaron, Beau, Teddi, Ty Buell, Skyler, Colton, Dane Miller; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Services will be Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, in Clay City. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department, 5156 E.
