Claudia Lamontagne, 61, of Terre Haute, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, in Union Hospital, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She was born March 1, 1951, in Baltimore, Md., to Gilbert West and Marilyn West Hohlbein.
She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Paul Lamontagne; her daughter, Elizabeth; her mother; brother, Daniel West of Glen Burnie, Md.; stepbrother, Keith Hohlbein and his wife Karen of Westminster, Md.; sisters-in-law, Anne Norris and her husband Tim of Bantam, Conn., and Diane Lamontagne of Waterbury, Conn.; brother-in-law, Donald Lamontagne and his wife Pamela of Torrington, Conn.; nephews, Jacob West of Baltimore, Joshua West of Glen Burnie, and Keith Hohlbein of Westminster; nieces, Donna Hohlbein of Baltimore, Ashley Poe of Westminster, Danielle Leger of Torrington, and Jessica Norris of Bantam.

She was an emergency room nurse at Union Memorial and was a psychiatric nurse at Franklin Square Hospital in Rosedale, Md. She retired from nursing in 1995 when the family moved to Terre Haute, becoming a full-time mom and homemaker. Her artistic pursuits included counted cross-stitch and pencil and ink drawing. She volunteered her time for many years at the studio, where her daughter danced, creating props and working backstage as the quick-change dresser during the annual dance recital. She loved to contemplate the spiritual and hidden aspects of life and was a fan of ghost stories and ghost hunting. She touched many lives with her insightful guidance and wonderful sense of humor, and she brought joy and a smile to everyone, including strangers at the gas station.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., in Terre Haute. A memorial service will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
