Barbara Ann Boomer

TERRE HAUTE — Barbara Ann Boomer, age 81, a twin at birth with Donald Everett Dubbs, in Terre Haute, Indiana, March 17, 1931, died July 14, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Raised in Terre Haute, Indiana, in the thirties and forties, she was a 1949 graduate of Wiley High School, going on to attend Indiana State Teachers College.

She married Kenneth A. Boomer of Winchester, Indiana in 1953, where they resided for twelve years. She gave birth to two daughters and was active in community affairs, serving two terms as president of Beta Nu chapter, Delta Theta Tau Sorority.  Moving to Greenwood, Indiana in the mid sixties she became involved with caring for special needs children in Whiteland and Center Grove schools. The family spent one year out of state where she continued this work in Monmouth, Illinois schools.  After returning to reside in Indianapolis, she began work on the Franklin College campus with the Johnson County Association For Mentally Challenged Children, then began a 27 year service at RISE Learning Center in Perry Township, Marion County, retiring in 1999. Her church affiliation was with Southport Presbyterian. She enjoyed her participation with Indianapolis and Winchester Chapters of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her husband, of 60 years. Surviving are daughters, Dr, Julie A (Kenneth R.) Boyd of Indianapolis, Laurie L (Gregory A.) Reifel of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, grandchildren, Kevin R and Ellen E Boyd, Hannah C, Abigail G., and Emma C. Reifel, her sister, Norma Reilly of Cloverdale, California and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, H Everett and Alpha N Dubbs, and was much grieved by the loss of her twin, Don, at 24 years of age.

G.H. Herrmann Madison Avenue Funeral Home, 5141 Madison Avenue Indianapolis, Indiana is handling the arrangements. Honoring her wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation. Following cremation, burial will be in Fountain Park, Winchester, IN. A remembrance service will be held at the chapel of Fountain Park at a later date.
