TERRE HAUTE — George F. Von Spreckelsen, 74, of Terre Haute, passed away at 7:52 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012. George was born in Indianapolis, on June 25, 1938, to Mary  Karsner and G.F. Von Spreckelsen.

He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia L. Wolfe Von Spreckelsen, his wife of 50 years. They married Sept. 1, 1961.

A graduate of Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, and Indiana State University, he was a progressive educator of Industrial Technology for Vigo County School Corporation for 40 years. As both department head and team leader, he initially led the movement to include co-educational classes in both technology and home economic, and served as audiovisual supervisor and newspaper sponsor founding the Wilson Warrior Salute, in addition to being an adjunct professor for the Indiana State University School of Technology. He also service as collaborator for the re-design/renovation of Woodrow Wilson with Maver J. Gibbs, then Principal, with special attention directed towards maintaining a matching architectural integrity with the original structure.

George’s interests and skills were many; an ardent Anglophile, he loved travel, writing, classical music, graphic and fine arts, restoration, photography, antique lighting, historical preservation, animal welfare, the environment, good cuisine, and creativity. For many years, he was the personal framer for the artworks of Donald L. Hadley. He counted Wes Montgomery, jazz guitarist, Andre’ Watts, classical pianist, and sculptor Bill Wolfe among his more prominent friends. His personal philosophy was, “The only evidence of life is growth.”
