TERRE HAUTE — William E. “Bill Ed” Coon, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 1:14 p.m., in Cobblestone Crossings Health Care Center. William retired after 33 years with Public Service as a mechanical engineer. He was born May 31, 1929, in Mount Vernon, to Edward Coon and Virginia (Jones) Coon.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia (Jenkins) Coon; a daughter, Bernice Bonwell and husband Greg of Indianapolis; a stepdaughter, Teresa Knever of Mobile, Ala.; a stepson, Raymond Mark Brown and wife Cinda of Kokomo; a sister, Geraldine Lindsay of Lake Weles, Fla.; a stepgranddaughter, Gracen Brown; a stepgrandson, Kyle Knever; and two nieces, Sharon and Robin. William was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a graduate of Indiana State University, and a member of Krietenstein American Legion Post 104. He enjoyed collecting die cast cars, was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed watching birds and gardening.

Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Callahan-DeBaun Funeral Home, 2425 Wabash Ave., with funeral services at 1 p.m., with Pastor Rick Swan officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Terre Haute Humane Society (envelopes will be available at the funeral home) Online condolences may be left at: www.debaunfuneralhomes.com
