TERRE HAUTE —
Laura Elizabeth Stevens, age 63, of Terre Haute, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend went home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at her residence.
Laura was born in Terre Haute, on May 19, 1949, the daughter of the late Thomas and Brookie Marie (Holland) Jeffrey. She was united in marriage to John W. Stevens Sr., who preceded her in death. Laura loved country music, loved to dance and is now dancing in heaven. She was a tremendous Elvis fan and enjoyed collecting Elvis memorabilia. Laura will forever be remembered for being truly selfless, giving, and caring. She deeply loved her family and will be terribly missed.
Laura leaves behind her two sons, John W. Stevens Jr. and girlfriend Lynn and Matthew T. Stevens and wife Sharon; and three daughters, Johanna Frakes, Isabella E.E. “Wheezie” Goodpasture, and Loretta Forbes. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren, Roxanna Frakes, Brookie Frakes, Danny Joe Forbes Jr., Laura Elaine Forbes, and Edward Sears; and four great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one sister, Ida Hargis and husband Mitch; two brothers, Oney Jeffrey and Bill Jeffrey and wife Sue; brother-in-law, Chuck Elkins; sisters-in-law, Linda Jeffrey, Zona Arend, Nora Banta, Violet Watson, and Wanda Haney; brothers-in-law, Evert Stevens, Raymond Stevens, and Stacy “Pete” Stevens Jr.; and several loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Laura was welcomed home to heaven by her father-in-law, Tom Stevens; mother-in-law, Eloise Stevens; brothers-in-law, Stacy Stevens Sr. and Ron Jarvis; two grandsons, Coty Forbes and Zeek Goodpasture; brothers, Tom Jeffrey, Joe Jeffrey, and Larry Jeffrey; sisters, Flora “Jitter” Jarvis and Ella Mae Elkins; and sister-in-law, Shirley Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. and again on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, from 11 a.m. until the time of Laura’s funeral ceremony at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. The entire Stevens and Jeffrey families would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of the Wabash Valley for the compassionate care they provided Laura in her final days. Memorial contributions in memory of Laura may be directed to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of the Wabash Valley.
