TERRE HAUTE —
Gilbert Darrell Higgins, Sr., 76, of Terre Haute died in his home Thursday June 21, 2012. He was retired as a foundry worker from several different foundries around Terre Haute. He was born January 12, 1936 in Decatur, Illinois to Lester Higgins and Lola Lee Higgins.
Survivors include four daughters, Pamela Potter and her husband Jeff of Monrovia, Becky Brake of Terre Haute, Connie Mellinger and her husband Darrell of Farmersburg, and Darlissa Webb of West Palm Beach, Florida; a son, David Higgins of Terre Haute; a sister, Lou Ellen Simmons of Terre Haute; two brothers, Terry Higgins and his wife Peggy of Florida and James Higgins of Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cleta Moody Higgins; a son, Gilbert “Gibby” Darrell Higgins, Jr.; two brothers, Franklin Higgins and Joseph Higgins; and a grand son, Lee Allen Brake.
Gilbert was a veteran of the Korean War having enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 103 of Mooresville, IN. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and racing dirt bikes.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street, with Pastor Kenneth Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #972. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Monday, June 25, 2012 from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M.
