Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, Judy Ann (Smith) Divine, 66, of Evansville, Ind., passed away on Sept. 1, 2012, in Chicago. Left to remember her pure heart and enduring strength are her husband of 44 years, James H. Divine; daughter, Emily R. Kasparov; son-in-law, Vladimir A. Kasparov; and two grandchildren, Victor J. and Katherine A. Kasparov of Chicago.
Judy was the oldest of three sisters born to the long cherished and greatly missed Alta M. Bell and Byron R. Smith of Terre Haute. Remaining of the three sisters is Debby R. Smith and her husband, Judy’s brother-in-law, Jerry A. Smith of Indianapolis, along with brother-in-law, Paul E. Vannoni of Terre Haute.
Judy was preceded in passing by her sister, Peggy L. Vannoni of Terre Haute. Judy was fortunate to have many extended family members including cousins, brother and sister-in-laws and nieces and nephews, all of whom made wonderful impacts and on Judy’s fulfilled, yet sadly shortened life.
Judy dedicated herself to embracing life through tending to all things growing. She made lasting impressions on young people throughout the years as an elementary school teacher and, more recently a teacher at the University of Southern Indiana, primarily in the Education Department. She also devoted many years as a mother and teacher to her only daughter. Judy tended to her garden as she tended to the many children and young adults whose lives she touched. Her beautiful plants and flowers will forever live in the memory of those who loved her.
Judy’s family feels a great loss and heartache for the woman that we all loved so dearly. In the same way she lived, Judy’s last days were filled with wildflowers, framed pictures of wonderful memories, and the sound of music - her favorite things. Her grandchildren will sadly miss Grandma Judy’s presence, in reading stories, singing along with songs, and just being together. Grandma Judy’s life remains precious to us all and we will forever be grateful to her for sharing so much love with us. Her love will live on in the hearts of all who remember this dear woman.
A memorial service is being planned for Judy in the coming weeks. For updates on the date and the service details please refer to the website:
