Two people arrested after police chase on I-70

BRAZIL — A traffic pursuit on Interstate 70 Friday afternoon has resulted in two arrests in an ongoing investigation.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts told the Tribune-Star that the pursuit began in Hendricks County near the 51-mile marker of westbound I-70 after a vehicle pulled over in a traffic stop sped off.

Police pursued the vehicle and attempted to stop the suspects by laying down stop sticks on the roadway at the 42-mile marker in Putnam County. The suspect vehicle avoided the stop sticks by driving onto the shoulder of the road, Watts said.

Additional stop sticks were placed on I-70 at the 27-mile marker, and the vehicle’s tires were flattened. When the vehicle stopped, the passenger fled on foot. He was tracked by an ISP canine unit and was apprehended about 350 yards northwest of where the vehicle stopped.

The passenger was taken to the Clay County Jail while the driver was transported to the Hendricks County Jail.

Assisting in the pursuit were units from the Cloverdale Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Department.

Watts stated that additional information about the suspects, their pending charges and the pending investigation are unavailable.
