Couple sought by police now in custody

Late Wednesday afternoon John L. Cunningham, 41, and his wife, Janet S. Cunningham, 43, were taken into custody without incident by Kentucky State Police and U.S. Marshals near Madisonville, Ky.

Following an extensive manhunt that began late Monday night and led police to locations in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, the couple was found sleeping in a stolen pickup truck at a truck stop near Madisonville, according to a news release.

The Cunninghams fled southern Illinois Monday night after a male victim was shot during an incident in Johnson  County. The victim has since been treated and released from the hospital, the release stated.

The Cunninghams, both convicted felons, are persons of interest in the shooting and are being held on Johnson County charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of weapon by a felon.
