Parke County police investigate fatal house fire

PARKE COUNTY — An autopsy is planned today for the victim of a fatal house fire being investigated by the Parke County Sheriff’s Department.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification.

The sheriff’s department reported that at 1:18 a.m. Friday, a 911 call reported a structure fire in the Hidden Lake Estates subdivision, located east of Rockville and north of U.S. 36. Neighbors reported that the roof of the house was fully engulfed and there was a possibility that a family was still inside.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the home engulfed with no way to make entry. The fire was extinguished and a search for victims began.

Firefighters located one body inside the residence, located in the 10000 block of Hidden Lane.

The Parke County Sheriff’s Department is handling the death investigation.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr has scheduled the autopsy for today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
