Bond reduction request denied in attempted murder case

TERRE HAUTE — A bond reduction request has been denied for a man accused of attempted murder and aggravated battery.

Clarence E. Sandifer, 36, appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Thursday and asked for his bond to be reduced from $125,000 cash only so that he could work as a trusty in the Vigo County Jail.

He also asked that he be assigned to a drug education course while he is in jail. Judge David Bolk also denied that request, noting that the course is intended for people who will be released from incarceration in the near future.

Sandifer has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, a class-B felony. in connection with a Nov. 11 shooting that occurred at a home in the 2000 block of North 13th Street near Maple Avenue. During a struggle with the alleged victim, Sandifer allegedly shot the other man in the chest with a small-caliber handgun. Sandifer then fled the scene, police said.

The victim was hospitalized for treatment, but has been released.

Sandifer has an April 30 trial date.
