Vigo County seeing strong voter turnout

TERRE HAUTE — Voter turnout appears strong in Vigo County as election 2012 reaches its climax.

Anecdotal accounts from around the county indicate polling places are busy this election day.

Pat Mansard, Vigo County Clerk, said she is hearing that turnout appears strong across the county for this, her final election as clerk.

There have been a few glitches but nothing outside of the normal, Mansard said. At one Seelyville voting place, an election official failed to report for duty, forcing a last-minute substitution early this  morning, she said.

Meanwhile, at the Vigo County Courthouse, Republican and Democratic party volunteers were busy shuttling absentee and early-voting ballots to various precincts where they will be placed in voting machines and counted.

Polls close at 6 p.m. today. Election results will be officially certified at noon Nov. 16.

More than 4,500 people cast early ballots in the county’s early-voting site before today’s voting.
