Benefit Sunday to raise money for tombstone for 3-year-old drowning victim

TERRE HAUTE — In an effort to raise funds to obtain a tombstone for a Terre Haute girl, a benefit will be conducted Sunday at “The Gift of Love” store at the northwest corner of Lafayette Avenue and Buckeye Street.

Food and karaoke will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. in an effort to raise $682 for a tombstone for Savannah Orman, 3, who drowned July 29 after being discovered in a residential swimming pool not far from her home on the 3000 block of South 91⁄2 St.

Orman died Aug. 2 at Riley Hospital for Children-IU Health in Indianapolis.

“We want to raise the money for a tombstone and anything over that will go to Riley Hospital, because that is what we feel is best,” said Neoma Bell, grandmother of the child.

Orman is buried at Grandview Cemetery in Terre Haute.

“I spent what I could on the funeral and helping the family, and this is something that was suggested” to help raise money, Bell said.

For more information or to contact Bell, call (812) 242-0077.
