TERRE HAUTE — Two people were injured in a single-vehicle accident late Monday in northern Clay County.

Joshua A. Dalton, 21, of Brazil, suffered head and back injuries in the 10:45 p.m. crash on County Road 1200 North west of Murphy Road near Cardonia. He was driving a westbound 2003 Nissan when the car went off the south side of the road and the driver overcorrected. The car went off the north side of the road and hit a utility pole, then entered a wooded area and came to rest facing south on the back on the road.

Dalton was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, where he was treated and released.

His passenger, Kyle W. McCoy, 20, of Brazil, sustained head trauma and broken ribs. He was airlifted via Air Evac helicopter to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis. He was listed in stable condition Tuesday afternoon.

Trooper Jim Kruse from the Indiana State Police Post at Terre Haute cited Dalton for driving too fast to avoid a collision.
