Kyle Marvel sentenced on felony battery charges

TERRE HAUTE — A West Terre Haute man received a five-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a class-C felony.

Kyle Marvel, 21, will serve two years of his sentence in the Vigo County Community Corrections program with three years suspended to formal probation. He must also complete an anger management course.

Marvel also received a six-year suspended sentence on a burglary charge. Four years of that sentence is to be served on informal probation. His total sentence is 11 years, with two years executed in community corrections, and seven years on probation.

Marvel was arrested in August 2012  on an allegation that he battered an elderly woman in the early morning hours after she yelled at him for urinating while standing outside a house.

At the time of the battery, Marvel was already on probation for a December 2010 burglary, and he was assigned to the mental health court program.
