Search for missing man moves to YouTube

TERRE HAUTE — Friends and family of a missing man continue raising awareness online with a video message posted on YouTube.

The video features Ann Smith, mother of Morgan M. Johnson, asking for the public’s help in searching for her son.

Johnson, 27, was last seen May 18 at the Value Place Motel in Plainfield where he’d been staying, she said. He had just been made aware of his grandfather’s passing in Washington D.C., but did not attend the funeral, she noted. Since that time, no phone or bank activity has occurred in his accounts.

In recent weeks, friends and family have conducted ground searches around Indianapolis as well as Terre Haute, distributing fliers with Johnson’s demographic information and photograph.

An African-American male, the 2002 graduate of Terre Haute North Vigo High School is reportedly 5 feet 8 inches tall, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His car was a white, 1995 Pontiac Grand Am with the license plate JS1830 and VIN 1G2NE55M6SC756311. He was employed at Brightpoint, a cellphone distributor in the Indianapolis area.

In addition to the YouTube video, friends have maintained a Facebook page titled “Find Morgan Johnson” which, as of Friday afternoon, had 4,020 members.

According to postings on the group’s Facebook page, volunteers will host a balloon launch on Johnson’s behalf at noon July 2 outside the Greenwood Park Mall.

In the video, Smith said Johnson is probably without the medication he requires for seizures and is possibly disoriented. She affirmed her belief that he is alive and in need of help. Describing him as a very giving person, she said he volunteered in church and community groups, including prison ministries, in his spare time.

A state-wide Silver Alert was issued for Johnson last week. Individuals with information about Johnson are asked to contact the investigating agency, the Plainfield Police Department at (317) 838-3565.

SHARE INFORMATION

Individuals with information about Morgan Johnson’s whereabouts are encouraged to contact Betty Clary, co-chair of public information for the “Find Morgan Johnson Coalition.” The group can be reached at 106 Southridge Road, Terre Haute, Indiana 47802. Its phone number is (812) 878-2314 and email is beclar13@aol.com. Individuals can also contact the Plainfield Police Department at (317) 838-3565.
