Routine traffic stop leads to Clay County meth arrest

TERRE HAUTE — A routine traffic stop resulted in a Brazil man’s arrest on methamphetamine-related allegations on Tuesday.

According to a media release issued by the Clay County Sheriff’s Department, Thomas Auterson, 49, Brazil, was arrested for allegations of manufacturing and dealing methamphetamine, possession of precursors, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Auterson’s vehicle had been stopped and found to not be properly registered. The male passenger, later identified as Auterson, reportedly attempted to exit the vehicle before it was stopped, and deputies initiated an investigation into the vehicle.

According to the release, deputies discovered an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, marijuana and items to ingest both. At the residence being visited by occupants of the vehicle, detectives reportedly discovered a clandestine methamphetamine lab, items associated with its manufacture, a substance which tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine, a substance that tested positive for the presence of marijuana, and paraphernalia items used to ingest both marijuana and methamphetamine.
