Hinsenkamp named executive director of economic agency

TERRE HAUTE — The multi-county board of directors of the West Central Indiana Economic Development District has named Ron Hinsenkamp, former chief transportation planner of the Metropolitan Planning Organization, as the organization’s new executive director.

Hinsenkamp was named by a unanimous motion of the board Monday night. He takes over the executive director’s post from interim director Gloria Wetnight, who stepped into the position after former director Merv Nolot retired at the end of last year.

Nolot served as the organization’s director for 36 years.

“I’m honored the board selected me for this new position and I look forward to working with our staff, board and partners in this new role,” Hinsenkamp stated after the meeting. “One of my top priorities over the next few months is to try and strengthen the agency’s partnership with the local communities we serve here in West Central Indiana.”

Hinsenkamp has been chief transportation planner at the MPO for West Central since 2007. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the Indiana Air National Guard. He has also been named a Sagamore of the Wabash.

The board applauded Hinsenkamp at Monday night’s meeting when he was named the new director, according to a board member present.

West Central, located east on Wabash Avenue, is a not-for-profit agency that coordinates several federal and state-funded programs in Vigo, Vermillion, Parke, Putnam, Clay and Sullivan counties. Established in the 1960s, WCIEDD includes the Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled, Economic and Community Development and the MPO.
