TERRE HAUTE —
• Because of dry, near-drought conditions, the Vigo County Commissioners are enacting a countywide burn ban, said Dr. Dorene G. Hojnicki, director of the Vigo County Emergency Management Agency.
• The ban will remain effect until noon Friday, Hojnicki said.
• The burn ban prohibits campfires and recreational fires unless enclosed in a fire ring with a diameter of at least 23 inches and height of at least 10 inches.
• It also prohibits the burning of debris, such as timber, vegetation and construction debris.
• Open burning of any kind using fuel such as wood or other combustible matter is also prohibited. n Charcoal from grills is permitted, but it must be extinguished after cooking.
