TERRE HAUTE —
Two Parke County men were taken by helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a single-vehicle accident Monday, the Parke County Sheriff’s Department reports.
Injured were driver Tony L. Smith, 49, of Lodi and passenger Kevin Fortner, 36. On Wednesday, Smith was listed in good condition at the Indianapolis hospital, while Fortner was listed in critical condition, a hospital spokesman said.
Parke County authorities report the accident occurred on County Road 1200 North, near Lodi. Smith was driving south on the road, when the vehicle went off the road and struck a tree head-on.
Two other passengers, Shane Smith, 35, and Franklin Grimes, 36, sustained injuries but refused treatment at the scene, the Parke County Sheriff’s Department reports.
Speed and alcohol were believed to be a factor, the Parke County police report states.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday.
