Local work group meeting Wednesday

TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County Soil and Water Conservation District and the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service will host a Local Work Group meeting in Terre Haute on Wednesday.

The meeting will take place at the USDA Service Center, Honey Creek West, 3241 S. Third Street,  beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The 2008 Farm Bill designates local working groups as subcommittees of the state technical committee.

The meeting will be open to the public and should consist of representatives from both the public and private entities interested in conservation in Vigo County. Those attending can provide input on a wide range of natural resource and agricultural concerns within the scope of state-outlined resource priorities.

Information discussed and gathered at this meeting will help maintain the quality of technical assistance and offer advice that may be utilized by USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service in future conservation efforts.

Meeting organizers will ask local work groups to discuss how well Indiana’s current technical information and programs address the identified local resource concerns.

Those attending also can complete a survey that will be forwarded to the state technical committee to assist it evaluate local, state and national conservation efforts.      

The meeting also will cover current conservation practices of the Environmental Quality Incentive Program and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program. Once priority resource concerns are identified, the top concerns are selected and ranked to be used in the ranking process for EQIP and WHIP for 2013 applications.
