Parkinson’s group meets today

TERRE HAUTE — The specific changes in people afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, and methods to treat those problems, will be discussed in a public gathering today.

The Terre Haute Parkinson’s Support Group will meet from 10 to 11 a.m. in Westminster Village at 1120 Davis Drive. The session is free and Parkinson’s patients, their families and caregivers are welcome to attend.

The group, led by retired minister Loyal Bishop, will talk about new treatments, medications and exercises outlined by the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

A recent publication from the APDA, “Cognitive Changes in Parkinson’s Disease,” explains how cognitive problems are assessed and managed. The booklet also details management strategies.

Parkinson’s affects more than 1 million Americans. Its symptoms include muscle rigidity, tremors in the limbs, and difficulties with speech and movement.

For more information, contact Bishop at 812-232-3207.
