PUTNAMVILLE —
A routine traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a New York man who possessed counterfeit traveler’s checks, fake credit cards and fake driver’s licenses.
At about 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Indiana State Police trooper Yan Dravigne stopped a rented 2012 Chevrolet Camero on westbound Interstate 70 for improper lane usage and unsafe lane movement.
Dravigne became suspicious during his conversation with the driver, and located a powdered milk supplement container with a false compartment inside the car. Inside the container were two fraudulent Pennsylvania driver’s licenses, seven fake credit cards and 82 counterfeit traveler’s checks each made out for $100.
Dravigne arrested Nelson M. Edmee, 25, Brooklyn, N.Y., on preliminary charges of forgery, class-C felony; identity deception, class-D felony; fraud, a class-D felony; and counterfeit government issued identification, a class-A misdemeanor. Edmee was being held in the Putnam County Jail with bond was set at $20,000 cash.
Edmee told police he was traveling from Brooklyn, N.Y., to Denver, Colo.
