Dugger —
A Dugger man died after being struck by a train early Sunday near the UpTown Tavern in Dugger.
Jeffrey Bedwell, 47, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was found next to the railroad tracks just a few feet behind the tavern, located near Second and Main streets.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department reports that Bedwell was seen at the tavern early Sunday morning, and exited the back door of the building.
Just before 4 a.m., police were called to the scene after Bedwell was struck by a train.
Police reviewed a video from the train that showed conductors sounding multiple warnings to clear the tracks before the train hit Bedwell.
An autopsy was conducted Monday, but the county coroner was out of state and unavailable to comment on Tuesday.
