Clinton’s Community Health Center on display

CLINTON — The expansion and renovation of the Vermillion-Parke Community Health Center in Clinton received public accolades Wednesday as an open house showed off the facility and staff.

With grant funding through the American Recover and Reinvestment Act awarded in 2011, the facility was able to grow from six exam rooms to 19 exam rooms, gain a larger waiting room area, add on-site services, and increase the facility size from 2,700 square feet to 8,000 square feet.

“This is a plus for the City of Clinton,” Mayor Jack Gilfoy said, noting that the clinic serves not only Clinton residents, but many surrounding communities. “This is something that will help us promote the city, and bring in more growth.”

Congressman Larry Bucshon also uplifted the expansion, noting that the facility provides access to quality healthcare to a large rural area.

“We are extremely excited to offer this expanded and renovated facility to provide comprehensive primary healthcare services to all,” said CEO and executive director Elizabeth Burrows. The clinic’s board of directors set a goal in 2010 to expand.

During tours of the facility, outreach coordinator Amy Reed noted that 90 percent of the 19 exam rooms are in use at any one time when patients are being seen. The community health center employs 12 providers, including three behavioral health providers, as well as staff members at the Cayuga clinic, and on the mobile unit that visits area schools.

The expanded clinic includes two nurses stations, a lab, call center, resource coordinator to help patients with insurance issues, a social worker, and a meeting room where video conferencing keeps access open to the Cayuga clinic.

Also during the open house, Louise Anderson, director of the West Central Indiana Area Health Education Center, commended the medical staff for providing healthcare in an underserved community.

The clinic’s hours of services have also expanded. In Clinton, regular office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with an after-hours clinic open from 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
