TERRE HAUTE —
The investigation into the homicide of 39-year-old Allyson Elmi-Lewis is continuing, and police are asking the public for information about her death and whereabouts in early October before she disappeared.
The woman’s body was discovered Nov. 3 along a gravel road near the Vigo-Clay County line about a mile north of Indiana 42. Vigo County Coroner Dr. Roland Kohr determined that she died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head at least two weeks before her body was discovered.
Elmi-Lewis’ estranged husband, 38-year-old Enzert G. Lewis, was interviewed by sheriff’s detectives, and he was arrested for violation of a no-contact order in which Elmi-Lewis was the victim. Lewis has prior criminal charges of domestic battery, strangulation, criminal confinement and rape in which Elmi-Lewis was the victim. A new criminal charge of domestic battery has also been filed against Lewis.
Elmi-Lewis had resided in an apartment just north of Wabash Avenue on 14th Street, and Lewis was known to stay there with her, police said. Since her disappearance, Lewis had been residing with a relative on Monterey Avenue.
Sheriff Greg Ewing has reassigned both road patrol units and administrative personnel to the criminal investigations unit to enhance investigative capabilities in the case. About 20 investigators are now working the homicide case, with the assistance of several outside agencies.
