TERRE HAUTE —
Police have arrested one of the two remaining suspects in an alleged attempted home invasion in late June in southern Vigo County.
On Tuesday afternoon, Knox County authorities arrested Eddie Wayne Grisham, 35, of Washington, Ind., after receiving a tip that Grisham was staying at a motel in Vincennes, said Vigo County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Clark Cottom.
Grisham was considered armed and dangerous at the time of his arrest.
The alleged home invasion and burglary attempt took place June 28 in Pimento. Vigo County sheriff’s deputies at the scene arrested one man at the time of the alleged home invasion attempt. Two others escaped in a vehicle after allegedly attempting to run down two sheriff’s deputies.
During the alleged incident, a Vigo County sheriff’s deputy fired two shots into the vehicle; however, it still sped away, resulting in a pursuit.
Grisham was the alleged driver of the vehicle, which soon crashed in a cornfield. The two suspects then fled on foot and a large-scale manhunt, including helicopters and police dogs, ensued.
Items inside the vehicle and eyewitness accounts connected the car to Grisham. A warrant was issued for his arrest on July 2.
Since the alleged attempted home invasion, multiple police agencies in Indiana and Illinois have been involved in attempting to locate Grisham and the other still-unidentified third suspect, Cottom said.
Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris, Chief Deputy Dan Mooney, Detective Mike Fisher and Deputy Sonny Pinkstaff arrested Grisham at the Vincennes Econo Lodge about approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Cottom said.
Vigo County Sheriff’s Department officers drove Grisham from Knox County to the Vigo County jail Tuesday evening. Grisham was taken to the Vigo County jail and his bail has been set at $75,000 with no 10 percent allowed. He is facing four felony allegations, including attempted residential entry, criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement and attempted burglary, according to the warrant for his arrest.
Grisham is due to appear in Vigo County court, Division 6, at 1:15 p.m. today.
The third and last remaining suspect from the alleged attempted home invasion is still at large. He is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds.
