State Police targeting meth in Putnamville district

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State Police are dedicating more resources to combat the production and use of methamphetamine in the Putnamville district.

Three troopers will join the ISP meth suppression officer to form a four-man unit working full time to analyze tips, investigate leads, find and dismantle clandestine laboratories, and arrest suspects associated with the manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine and related crimes. Assigned to the team are officer Shilo Raulston and troopers B.J. Patterson, Brent Robinson and Mike Wood. The veteran troopers all have graduated from the DEA Clandestine Laboratory Investigations School and are DEA-certified to dismantle the clandestine laboratories, as well as dispose and handle the dangerous chemicals associated with meth production.

Recent statistics show the Putnamville district seized 59 labs in 2010, 59 labs in 2011 and 49 labs last year. Statewide, methamphetamine labs seized in Indiana were 1,395 in 2010, 1,437 in 2011 and 1,726 in 2012, the most on record in Indiana. The Putnamville District is comprised of Vigo, Parke, Vermillion, Clay, Sullivan and Putnam counties.

One of the most important aspects for this venture to be a success are the tips provided by the general public. To report a suspected methamphetamine lab or related meth activity, call the Putnamville Post at 765-653-4114 or toll free (Indiana only) at 800-225-8576. All callers can remain anonymous.
