Service set for ‘One Month’ effort

TERRE HAUTE — If you knew you only had one month to live, what would you do to make what’s left of your life really matter?

That’s what thousands of central Indiana residents are considering midway in March as they participate in the “One Month to Live” challenge, which encourages people to start living their lives as if they only have 30 days left on earth. The challenge, sponsored by Terre Haute Ministries, began March 1.

Terre Haute Ministries is hosting a citywide service at 6 p.m. Sunday at Maryland Community Church, with special guests Kerry and Chris Shook. In 2008, the couple released the book, “One Month to Live: Thirty Days To A No-Regrets Life,” which hit the New York Times bestseller list. That subsequently spawned a church movement. Kerry Shook will be speaking at the citywide service to help celebrate and encourage the  community. The service will be conducted at Maryland Community Church, 4700 S. Indiana 46, Terre Haute.

Earlier on Sunday, Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church will host the Shooks for the morning services at 8:45 and 10:45. Kerry Shook will be preaching on Day 17 of “One Month to Live.” Sons Ryan and Josh Shook also will be there, releasing their new book, “Firsthand.” At 10 a.m., they will meet with 100 youth and college students to share their story. Just after the 10:45 service, they will be doing book signings.

At 2 p.m., the family will move over to Maryland Community Church, which is hosting a “Firsthand” launch event. Ryan and Josh Shook will be sharing their story and doing a question-and-answer session.

For more information, contact the Rev. Honnalora Hubbard, executive director of Terre Haute Ministries, at director@terrehauteministries.org or 812-234-7100, ext. 215.
