TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute man has been charged with child molestation after DNA evidence allegedly linked him to a reported sexual relationship with a teen.
Michael Powell, 23, was arrested Wednesday on a class-A felony charge of child molestation and a class-B felony charge of sexual misconduct with a minor.
He appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Thursday where Judge David Bolk set an Oct. 16 trial date.
According to court records, the criminal conduct alleged to have occurred between Powell and the alleged victim — who is age 14 to 16 — happened between July 15 and Oct. 16, 2011. Terre Haute Police were notified by the teen’s mother, and an investigation included DNA testing on items in the victim’s home.
Bail for Powell is set at $75,000 with no 10 percent allowed.
