NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner coming up Friday

TERRE HAUTE — Only a few days remain to purchase tickets for the NAACP Terre Haute’s Freedom Fund Dinner, which is Friday at the Holiday Inn. A reception begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and the program at 7.

Tickets are $65 per person or $500 for a table of eight and include all activities for the evening. To purchase tickets call 812-250-8851 or email atbynum@hotmail.com; they also can be purchased by mail at: Terre Haute NAACP, P.O. Box 10538, Terre Haute, IN 47801-0538.

The deadline to buy tickets is Monday.

Brian Simmons, a member of the New York theatre community, will be the featured actor in a Living Voices performance of “The Right to Dream” at the dinner.

Living Voices strives to recreate historical periods with as much authentic detail as possible. Theressa Bynum, Freedom Fund Committee Chair, believes the Living Voices presentation will give audience members a better understanding of the American Civil Rights Movement as participants.

“This is a powerful, dramatic presentation that will touch everyone who sees it in some way,” Bynum said.

Simmons holds a BFA in theatre performance from Virginia Commonwealth University.

The annual fundraising dinner is hosted by the Terre Haute NAACP Branch and is sponsored by First Financial Bank.

Contributions or gifts to the local NAACP unit are tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.
