TERRE HAUTE —
Police are hoping the public will have information that leads to the arrest of a robbery suspect who took an undisclosed amount of cash from the Vigo County Federal Credit Union late Friday morning.
The suspect is described as a black male, about 5-feet-8 to 6-feet tall, with a thin build. Video from the credit union shows him wearing a light blue shirt, blue jeans and a hat.
According to police scanner traffic, the suspect was carrying a blue bag from the bank.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. when the man entered the credit union, walked up to a teller and demanded cash. He left the area on foot. Terre Haute Police called in a K-9 unit to attempt to track the suspect, however, the track was not successful.
Terre Haute Police, along with units from the Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, responded to the scene. The K-9 unit tracked to a house in the 200 block of South Ninth Street. A woman answered the door of the home and allowed police to search it, a witness said, but the suspect was not found. Police armed with rifles also searched wooded areas between Ninth and 13th streets from Poplar to Crawford streets.
Detective Kayle Pickens said police are not releasing many details of the case, as a way of filtering tips that come in from the public that have accurate information about the incident. Police would not comment on whether the suspect is believed to have a gun, or if he indicated that he had a gun.
The credit union was closed for the business day after the robbery. It is to reopen for business on Monday.
As of Friday night, no arrests had been made.
