TERRE HAUTE —
A house fire in northern Vigo County remained under investigation Thursday after breaking out earlier that afternoon.
Doug Hannah, assistant chief of the Otter Creek Volunteer Fire Department, said investigators believe the fire originated in the living room, where the family still had a live Christmas tree on display.
The fire, which occurred about 3 p.m. in the 3000 block of Broadlands Avenue, was contained quickly, department personnel said.
Hannah said the occupants made it out of the home safely, but a 26-year-old man had to be transported to the hospital for what he understood to be a pre-existing medical condition.
“I don’t believe it was related to the fire,” he said.
The home suffered damage, as did a large portion of its contents, Hannah said.
