WCIEDD appoints interim director

TERRE HAUTE — Gloria Wetnight has been appointed interim director of the West Central Indiana Economic Development District.

The appointment, effective Jan. 1, will remain until a new executive director is approved by the agency’s board of directors.

Wetnight, who has been with West Central for 23 years, is the director of the Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled, a position she has held since 2010.

Merv Nolot, 66, who had served as executive director for 36 years, retired as of Dec. 31.

Wetnight said 29 applications have been received for the open position. Five final candidates have been selected and will begin an interview process this month. Wetnight said a selection committee is working to have a new executive director selected by Feb. 1.

The WCIEDD board of directors meets Jan. 28 and could approve a candidate at that meeting, Wetnight said. Wetnight may remain longer in the position if a candidate needs a longer transition time.

Wetnight said she did not apply for the executive director position.

“We work as a team and I don’t foresee any problems throughout the month of January. We are looking forward for a new person to be in place,” Wetnight said.

West Central is a not-for-profit agency that serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for several federal and state-funded programs in Vigo, Vermillion, Park, Putnam, Clay and Sullivan counties.

The agency, established in the 1960s, has an annual budget of $3.5 million and a staff of more than 80 full- and part-time employees.

The agency includes Area 7 Agency of Aging and Disabled, economic and community development and the MPO, which includes transportation planning.
