Report on fatal Dugger bar fight expected by week’s end

DUGGER — Indiana State Police detectives Tuesday interviewed several witnesses and potential witnesses about the death of a Sullivan County man involved in fight early Saturday morning at the Uptown Tavern in Dugger.

Sgt. Joe Watts said a state police report “is expected to be presented to the Sullivan County Prosecutor’s office at week’s end.”

Watts said it may be late this week or early next week before state police will determine if an arrest will be made in the case.

Police say an autopsy Sunday determined that Richard D. Pigg, 51, of Dugger died from blunt force trauma to the head. Pigg was injured during a 1:30 a.m. fight at the tavern.

Police say Pigg and another man argued inside the bar and that Pigg hit his head on the floor after being punched on the side of his face. He died about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at an Indianapolis hospital.

No arrests were immediately made, although police say investigators know with whom Pigg was fighting.
